I LOVE pickles. I haven’t started growing my cucumbers yet but I will be and I was wondering how do u pickle them to make pickles?
And I was also wondering, If you could grow cucumbers in hanging baskets. Can you? If not, what other fruits and vegetables can be grown in a hanging basket.
One last question, what would some good flowers be to grow in a hanging basket? I was going to put it by the front door and I was wondering what are some pretty and attractive flowers that I could put in the basket.

If you want to make pickles a cookbook would be a good investment. Typical ingredients are vinegar, salt and seasonings like dill, garlic and mustard seeds. Some pickles are sweetened, others are not. You will need a hot water canner and jars.
Cucumbers can be grown in hanging planters but I prefer to grow them at ground level and train them to climb a trellis. Strawberries and tomatoes can also be grown in hanging baskets. Nasturtiums are a good flower to grow in hanging planters.

I have pickled cucumbers before. You have to make sure that the cucumbers are the right type for pickling before you start. First, you make a mix of whatever vinegars or spices you want in your pickles. You then place the mixture in an airtight sealable jar along with the cucumbers, but you have to make sure that the jar has NO air in it whatsoever. It would be very easy to grow cucumbers in hanging baskets and some people reccomend that because any plant that spreads out on the ground would be good in a basket. You can also grow tomatoes, squash, beans, strawberries, cabbage and peas in hanging baskets. Impatiens and Begoniaas are also good flower choices to grow in hanging baskets.

For the pickles, here’s a link to a pretty good recipe site.

There are smaller bush varieties of cucumber that do very well in hanging baskets.
Any of the small annual flowering plants, the common ones you see at the home centers and nurseries, will do very well in hanging baskets. You will see them sold as “Color” baskets. Funner to make your own and you get to pick what you’d like in them.

This site is very good about explaining both the types of plants and how to arrange them. Just ignore the adds for their products, any decent potting soil will work.
